Everyone knows what is empathy and self-love. Even so, is there a connection between both of them? What is the actual definition of these two terms? To answer these questions, read on.

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, self- love is defined as a “regard for one’s own happiness or advantage" while empathy is defined as “the action of understanding ,being aware of, being sensitive to and experiencing the feelings ,thoughts and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings ,thoughts and experience fully in a objectively explicit manner”

There is a thin line separating them both. You might have come across people who have them both or in case of some people; both these traits will be non-existent. Yet, in our own style, we can make changes in our character, in cultivating self-love and empathy in the right measures. Trust me when I say that these two are the most astonishing part of human nature and you will be missing out if you are not aware and mindful of how these two can transform the way you connect to other people .The ideal person is the one who can strike a balance between these two traits.

How they are connected?

Both, self-love and empathy are natural traits in humans. If empathy used properly, you can have the ability to see what others feel and think. This gives us a heads up for what to expect from people in terms of their actions. However, this tool used for understanding human behavior cripples us by our chronic behavior of too much self- absorption.
